Our science

A healthy barrier is not a marketing idea. It is a wall of cells held together by lipids — and when that wall is intact, water stays in and irritants stay out.

The barrier, in one paragraph

Your outermost skin layer works like brick and mortar. The cells are the bricks; ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids are the mortar. Strip the mortar — through harsh cleansers, over-exfoliation, cold weather or prescription actives — and the wall leaks. Skin feels tight, stings when you apply anything, and flakes no matter how much moisturiser you use.

What we do differently

Most moisturisers add water and call it hydration. We rebuild the mortar.

  • Multi-lamellar ceramides. Ceramide NP, NS and AS arranged in stacked layers, mirroring the lipid structure found in healthy skin rather than a single flat dose.
  • Humectant plus occlusive, in that order. Glycerin and hyaluronic acid draw water up from the deeper layers; squalane and shea seal it in. One without the other does half the job.
  • Nothing added for the smell. No fragrance, no essential oils, no drying alcohols. If an ingredient is only there for the sensory experience, it is not in the formula.

How we test

Every formula is developed with sensitive skin in mind, and skin irritation testing is conducted as appropriate for each product. We publish what we test — not what sounds impressive.

How to use this

You do not need ten steps. Cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen. Add a serum if your skin is dehydrated. Everything else is optional, and most of it is noise. If your barrier is compromised, the fastest fix is usually to remove things rather than add them.
